News Analysis 2

Breast cancer activists march in Jerusalem

Informative vs. Superficial:
the article was very informative. it described the who, where, what, and when.
according to the article, 5,000 women marched in Jerusalem on Thursday, October 28th. the goal of the march was to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Accurate and Truthful vs False and Deceptive:
I believe that the article is accurate and truthful. the reporter uses several quotes, that make the article accurate. An example for a quote is: "Most of the population is very aware about the disease and are checking themselves regularly, but there is a very big problem of awareness within the Arab population, in very religious Jewish communities, and among the Ethiopians," spokeswoman Racheli Goldblat told AFP.

Objective vs Biased:
in my opinion the article is mostly objective. Most of the article focuses on the important information, such as the amount of women who marched, the famous people who attended the march, and the statistics in Israel regarding breast cancer.

Pluralistic vs Insular Viewpoint:
In the article there is an insular viewpoint, since the article does not address the issue of family problems that can be caused among Arab communities due to breast cancer.

Balanced vs Weighted Side
the article was somewhat balanced since it mostly reported the event, but also mainly appealed to women.

Racism in Advertisment

Who is communicating?
The people who are comunicating are the owners of N.K. Fairbank Company, that have recently developed a new type if soap called "Fairy Soap".

What about Who?
the N.K.Company are saying that "Black" people are not as clean as "White" people, because they dont use the same type of soap, and because "Black" people can't afford buying the soap.

Why is it that Way?
N.K. Company are saying that black people are not as clean as white people because at the time, black people were not able to buy suck soap because of the cost of it.
Because of these type of ads, people think that black people are never clean, and poor.

Looking At The Mirror

At the beginning, I thought that this exercise is not going to be as I thought it would be earlier. I thought that this exercise will be easy, because what's there to look at? I mean, I know what my face looks like, but when I looked at myself I have noticed things that I didn’t notice before. I noticed the way the shadows fall on my face, and that was the first time that I have seen this. I mean I saw shadows before, but not the way I saw it on my face today.

I couldn’t stop myself from wondering what I would look like if my eyes were not as small as they are, or what would I look like if my nose was different. I was trying to prevent myself from thinking about all the things that I hate about myself, but it was very hard. I have noticed that I really hate my nose, ears and eyes, that I would like my hair to be darker than it is now, and that I hate my skin texture.

I was also wondering what I would look like if I had these really pretty eyes, like all the girls have on TV. I mean, the girls on TV always look so pretty, and looking at myself for 15 minutes, didn’t really help me feeling good with myself. I guess the media does impact our self confidence. Once I saw this film where one girl said that all the commercials with all the pretty girls make her feel so bad about herself, and I just couldn’t understand why does she let TV impact the way she feels about herself. I mean it is pretty obvious that the girls on TV don’t look so pretty in real life. Then why bothering making yourself feeling bad just because you are not blonde?

in the course of a single day, how much time did i spend with:
  • Radio (2hours)
  • Television (20 minutes)
  • Computer (1.5 hours)
  • listening to music (6 hours)
Multiple Media
  • About 1 hour was devoted to multiple media
  • Phone and Music device
I see a lowering in my use of media, as I spend more time reading, doing school work, or just being with my family. I have noticed that most of the ads that i see are part of TV shows (i.e. people sitting in a restaurant drinking coca cola)

I have noticed that I listen to music mainly when I read books, or when I do school work. I have also notices that I don't watch TV that much, since I prefer spending time with my family.

Super Size Me Review

in my opinion, the documentary film by Morgan Spurlock was a great
example of the possible effects that can be cause by consuming too much
unhealthy food. Morgan Spurlock started his film by taking several medical
exams to examine his health conditions. In addition to blood tests that
were taken, Spurlock took a physical exam, that showed that his physical
condition is good, in addition to the blood test that showed that he is a
very healthy person..

there were several outcomes from Spurlock's experiment:

1. Spurlock was not able to perform physical exercises as he used to do
before the experiment

2. Spurlock became addicted to junk food, and was depressed when he was
not eating McDonald's.

3. Spurlock's physical condition was worsen, and he gained a lot of
weight, and had too much cholesterol in his blood

Along Spurlock's experiment to see the effects of consuming McDonald's
for 30 days his physical condition was worsen. towards the end of the
experiment Spurlock was not able to perform physical exercises as he used
to before consuming McDonald's.At the beginning of the film Spurlock was
shown going up the stairs without having any problems, in addition, he
was also shown during the time that he was taking his physical exam that
his physical condition is above average. towards the end of the
experiment Spurlock was shown going up stairs while having problems, as a
result of lack of shape.

in addition, Spurlock seemed to be depressed at times that he didn't eat
McDonald's, whereas he was seemed to be happy at times that he did eat
McDonald's. at a certain point, when he was depressed he was not able to
tell why he was feeling depressed, but he just felt like eating.

during several health exams that Spurlock took during the experiment, his
doctors have told him that he has gained weight, and that his cholesterol
level in his blood is too high.

all these outcomes show the negative effects the over consumption of
McDonald's can have on our body.

Voluntary vs Involuntary media
  • almost 80 percent of my media activity is voluntary

during the weekends I see increase in the amount of media that I am exposed to. Although I spend most of my time with my family or reading books, I am still exposed to a lot of types of media, that is mostly involutary.

During the week, I spend less time using sites that are accosiated with entertainment, (such as facebook) and more time reading books and listening to music.
